Different free DNS servers

Google and Cloudflare offer free DNS servers for public use. However, these two companies do not necessarily shine with exemplary data protection. Here are those servers, and also some popular other public DNS servers, similar to those provided by Google and Cloudflare.

Google Public DNS

  • IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
  • IPv6: 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844
  • Google Public DNS is one of the most widely used free DNS servers, known for its speed and reliability.

Cloudflare DNS

  • IPv4: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
  • IPv6: 2606:4700:4700::1111 and 2606:4700:4700::1001
  • Cloudflare DNS emphasizes privacy and speed, often advertised as the “fastest DNS server” with strong privacy features.

OpenDNS (a Cisco company)

  • IPv4: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
  • IPv6: 2620:119:35::35 and 2620:119:53::53
  • OpenDNS provides additional features like web filtering and phishing protection.

Quad9 DNS

  • IPv4: 9.9.9.9 and 149.112.112.112
  • IPv6: 2620:fe::fe and 2620:fe::9
  • Quad9 blocks malicious websites by using threat intelligence from multiple security organizations.

CleanBrowsing DNS

  • IPv4: 185.228.168.9 (Family Filter) and 185.228.168.10 (Adult Filter)
  • IPv6: 2a0d:2a00:1::2 (Family Filter) and 2a0d:2a00:2::2 (Adult Filter)
  • CleanBrowsing offers different filtering options for families and businesses to block access to inappropriate content.

Comodo Secure DNS

  • IPv4: 8.26.56.26 and 8.20.247.20
  • Comodo Secure DNS focuses on security and automatically blocks malicious websites.

AdGuard DNS

  • IPv4: 94.140.14.14 and 94.140.15.15
  • IPv6: 2a10:50c0::ad1:ff and 2a10:50c0::ad2:ff
  • AdGuard DNS blocks ads, tracking services, and phishing websites.

These DNS servers offer a variety of features such as speed, security, privacy, and filtering options. You can choose the DNS servers that best fits your needs.


Here are the famous UUnet DNS servers, which I use for many many years:

UUnet DNS (old but gold)

  • IPv4: 193.101.111.20, 193.101.111.10 and 192.76.144.66
  • UUnet DNS caching servers for Europe, open for public use.

Some other DNS servers, which may be also used:

Neustar DNS (new use for Verisign IPs)

  • IPv4: 64.6.64.6 and 64.6.65.6
  • Was Verisign, but now operated by Neustar.
